- Better off dead
not supposed to live past 13,
I know you thought I forgot
getting older condition worsening
not born dead, but born to die
fuck their system spitshine yer eye
I watched you learn to fly that night in gainesville
flew to the rooftops on our handlebars
will couldnt see past the top of yer head
- Casey Jones
The Workers on the S. P. line to strike sent out a call
But Casey Jones, the engineer, he wouldn't strike at all
His boiler it was leaking, and its drivers on the bum
And his engine and its bearings, they were all out of plumb.
Casey Jones kept his junk pile running
Casey Jones, scabbing double time
Casey Jones, he got a wooden medal
For being good and faithful on the S.P. line.
- Depression
when you have nothing, you haven't even hope to spare.
you're exactly where you want to be.
you wouldn't have it any other way.
any other way would be complication.
depression ain't so bad.
makes you wish you'd never been born,
but you always jump right back.
now i've been on top of the world,
- Diggin' Ditches
Sometimes I feel like pretending to end it all
I could pack up my whole life into a paragraph or two
Newspapers would say I was a good kid,
Newspapers would say I was a tragedy
But those newspapers will never know,
Just like you never knew and you'll never know me
So if they say I'm dead but they can't find the body,
Wish me well.
- Jack Johnson
Have you heard about Jack Johnson, hes a hero in this land
I don't like to sing about boxing but I hope youll understand
It was the 1st year they gave teh heavyweight to a black man and in 1908 it aint so easy
He was born right after slavery died, right after reconstruction died, born right after none of that stuff really died at all
He would walk down the streets wearing gold and diamonds, always hold his head up high, and he never had to say yes sir or no sir to the white forlks as they passed him by, or as he passed them by
So the great white hope was pulled out of retirement to nurse the bruised and shattered white pride
And when Johnson beat him down there wasn't a man around at his side
When the fight was over there was beatings and murders, the worst race riot this country has seen
- Little Piece...
I felt guilty just for smiling or for dancing.
I was frowning with my back against the wall.
A little piece of me had been washed away
And I didn't think it was worth looking for.
I'm looking for excuses to bring me back,
& I hope I find me one.
Cause I don't like what I've become.
Jaded, bottle in my hand, afraid to say a mumbling word,
- trains and cops
I live down by the railroad tracks.
One of these days I wanna hop on board a train rolling down the line.
I won't care where it takes me because as long as I'm moving fast,
Call it easy riding, call it hard traveling;
I won't mind.
I won't mind at all where I'm going.
It can take me east or west I don't care.
