The first impressions of the audience from the album were mixed; in the end, however, Exile on Main St. was recognized as the greatest album of The Rolling Stones and one of the most significant albums in the history of rock music in general. In 2003, he was included in the top ten "500 greatest albums of all time" according to Rolling Stone magazine (No. 7).
