Then we put my things in my new room
cnd I went to sleep there.
When suddenly I was awakened
By a sound near my door,
The pitter-patter of dog toe-nails
Making noise on my floor.

I looked and looked but couldn't see
cnything around.

I walked into the living room
Where the moon was shining bright.
The curtains there were blowing soft,

Then I heard more doggy footsteps,
So I found a place and hid —
c little spot beside the fireplace
Where I knew I could fit.
But as I was hiding there
I could feel something poke!
I pulled back my blanket
cnd the doggy said,
“Nope! — Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope!”
I couldn't believe my ears!
I couldn't believe he spoke!
But it clear as anything I ever heard.
That doggy said,
“Nope!”
He tottered out into the room
On his short, stubby legs.
His floppy ears touched the floor
cnd his head was really big.
His eyes were very droopy
cnd I could tell that he was wise.
He was black and white and brown in spots
cnd he scampered off to hide.
“Nope! — Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope, Nope!”
I looked for him in every room
But couldn't find him anywhere,
So I went into the den
cnd I cuddled in the comfy chair,
But something squirmed and squiggled there
cnd I was filled with hope.
The Nope-Dog was there, in the chair,
cnd again he said,
“Nope! “
He scurried quick away again
So I went back to bed.
But when I pulled back my covers
There was his big ol' head.
He looked at me with those wise eyes
cnd, of course, he just said, “Nope!”
He jumped away and I was sleepy, so
I just let him go.

There was a gift box near my bed,

I pulled on the ribbon

There was a little puppy Nope-Dog
Wiggling inside.
He looked at me and he wagged his tail.
I picked him up and saw him smile.
He gave me lots of puppy kisses
cnd I hugged him for a while.
cnd I looked into my parents' eyes
cnd I knew he was mine to love.
So, I called him Nope Dog...
I called him Nope Dog...
Yeah, I called him Nope Dog...
Or “Nopey”... just for fun.
